SLO Take Back Program
Through the IWMA’s SLO Take Back Program, every retailer that sells household batteries, compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) and fluorescent tubes, mercury-added thermostats, paints, sharps and medication in San Luis Obispo County must take those items back from the public for free.
Bring your single-use batteries, button batteries, rechargeable batteries, CFLs, fluorescent tubes, mercury thermostats, paint, needles and sharps and unwanted medication to any retail store that sells the above items during regular store hours for FREE recycling. Single-use batteries should be fully discharged, button batteries should have tape placed over the metal contacts, and CFLs may not be broken. Sharps must be in a certified collection container. Hint: ask your pharmacist for a FREE certified collection container. Then fill it, seal it and return it to your pharmacy for FREE disposal.
