Business Hazardous and Universal Waste
The IWMA has programs to help businesses manage their hazardous and universal waste. State and Federal laws govern these programs and restrictions apply.
To dispose of hazardous waste, fill out the appropriate form below. If you qualify to participate in the program, the approved form will be emailed back to you with instructions to bring the inventoried waste to one of the following listed below.
Note: The IWMA is not a regulatory agency and cannot advise you regarding hazardous waste regulations or your current status as a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator (CESQG). If you are unsure if the business is a CESQG or if you have questions about hazardous waste regulations, please call County Environmental Health at (805) 781-5544 for further information. The IWMA reserves the right to provide information to County Environmental Health to verify your compliance with CESQG regulations.
Complete & Submit the Appropriate Form
This form is for businesses with universal waste, which includes household batteries, fluorescent lamps, sodium/metal hydride/halogen bulbs. In addition, please use this form for used motor oil, latex paint and e-waste.

Universal Waste Form.pdfBusinesses are permitted to dispose of up to 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per calendar month.

This form requires an EPA ID Number. If you do not have an EPA ID Number, please contact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at (800) 618-6942.

After Your Form Has Been Approved
Bring the inventoried waste form at your appointment date and time to the approved location, which will be one of the locations listed below. When you bring in your waste, please have the following ready to show the on-site attendant:
- Your completed and approved inventory and certification form and
- A credit card or check for the total cost made payable to SLO County IWMA (no cash please)

Payment Instructions
The SLO County IWMA accepts credit card, and check payments only.
Once your form is approved, you will receive a separate email with an invoice. IWMA staff is working diligently to resolve this issue. At this time you may choose to either pre-pay with a credit card or to bring a check with you at your appointed drop-off time.
Currently, our point-of-sale platform is experiencing technical issues and is unavailable for credit card processing. IWMA staff is working diligently to resolve the issue. Please submit your check payment at the time of your appointment.
- To pay by credit card select the Pay Now button and enter your credit card information. Print your receipt and bring it along with your approved form at your appointed drop-off time.
- To pay by check: bring your check, made out to SLO County IWMA, along with your approved form at your appointed drop-off time.
All payments are due in full at the time of drop-off.
