Residential Hazardous Waste Disposal
Residents of San Luis Obispo County may drop off up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per visit at no cost. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and E-Waste are accepted at the following facilities for residential drop-off. Residents with hazardous waste over 15 gallons or 125 pounds may request Large Quantity Disposal here.
To safely dispose of burnt lithium ion batteries, soak them in a brine solution for 48 hours prior to transporting for disposal.
Baking Soda Brine Solution:
Combine 1 and 1/8 cups of baking soda with one gallon of water.
Soak for a full 48 hours to ensure they are completely discharged in a well ventilated area.
After 48 hours, transport your DDR batteries to one of our Household Hazardous Waste Facilities.
