How to Safely Dispose of Fireworks

Please note: This also applies to 'dud' fireworks that didn't go off, as they are still liable to explode.

Fireworks can be extremely dangerous if you throw them away improperly! To dispose of fireworks follow the steps below:

  1. Remove the fuse.
  2. Submerge fully in water for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Wrap the soaked fireworks in two trash bags, and secure tightly.
  4. Place the double bagged fireworks in your curbside trash.

This also applies to 'dud' fireworks that didn't go off, as they are still liable to explode.

If you have explosives to dispose of (including firecrackers or marine flares), please call your local law enforcement office to determine the best way to handle these materials.
