Trash to Treasure

Fall Clean-Up week is coming up for the communities of Morro Bay, Los Osos, Cayucos and Cambria, and the IWMA is excited to help redistribute landfill-bound items  through a community-wide treasure hunt!

Trash to Treasure is a free, interactive map where residents can post items they no longer want ("treasure"), and treasure hunters can follow the map to retrieve them!

Hunting for Treasure

On the evening of Friday, September 25th, the Treasure Map will go live! Treasure hunters, use the map to see what your neighbors have posted and what you might want to pick up. The Treasure Hunt will start Saturday morning at 7 AM, and ends on Sunday evening when the map closes.

Once you grab an item, please go to the map and mark it as "Gone".  If you go to pick up an item and notice it's no longer there, please also mark it as "Gone", so we can keep track of what's been taken.

Posting Treasure

During the posting window of Thursday, September 17th - Thursday, September 24th, residents of the participating communities can post "Treasure" on our interactive Treasure Map.  Then, place your treasure on the curb on Saturday, September 26th by 7 AM in the morning, so treasure hunters can find it!

DO post: Clean, still functional items that you no longer want, such as furniture, bikes, home decor, yard items, etc.

DON'T post: Household trash, hazardous waste, construction debris.

[OPTIONAL]  Print the participant sign (or make your own!) and place it on your items so people can find your items!

There is the option to mark items as "Gone" on the community map. If you notice your items have been retrieved, and they aren't yet marked as "Gone", please help out and mark them as "Gone" online!

If your items do not get taken through the weekend, you may schedule a bulky item pick-up with Waste Connections, taking place on your normal service day during the week of September 28th - October 2nd. Restrictions and fees may apply, call Waste Connections for more details. You are also encouraged to take unclaimed items to a local thrift store! Do not leave items on your curb after the event, instead, please bring them in until you have a pick-up.

This program is only limited to residents within the jurisdiction limits of Morro Bay, Los Osos, Cayucos and Cambria at this time. Trash to Treasure will be coming to South County in October, so stay tuned! Want to see more events like this throughout the county? Let us know!
