Zero Waste Halloween Decor
Spooky season is here, and many of us are starting to decorate our spaces for Halloween! Here are some quick tips to get in the festive spirit without sending more junk to the landfill.
Use what you have! Instead of running to the store to purchase new decor, the easiest thing to do is to save your decorations to enjoy year after year.
Get crafty! Lots of items can be DIYed, rather than buying new. For example, instead of using plastic fake spider webs, try using cheesecloth, gauze or yarn to create the same effect.
Check second hand! Our local thrift stores are full of secondhand Halloween decor waiting for a new home.
Use natural materials! Instead of buying cheap plastic decor, try decorating with natural materials. Leaves, pumpkins and pinecones all create a festive vibe in your space, and can be composted in your green bin after the season is over.
